Beautiful writing desk in blackened pear wood produced by the Tahan house, rue de la Paix in Paris in the middle of the 19th century. Cabinetmaker to Emperor Napoleon III, Tahan provided only imperial furniture.
This luxury Parisian quality object is embellished with ebony moldings and chiseled brass fillets.
On the top, the molded rim presents a succession of three brass threads which frame an important motif with inlays of brass, mother-of-pearl and turtle scales. In the center, a plaque illustrated with initials is surrounded by arabesques, leaves and intertwining flowers.
A delicately carved key opens this writing case. The original engraved lock - TAHAN - is in perfect working order.
The rosewood interior has storage space and two small drawers with ebony pull knobs.
Equipped with four small slab feet, this refined and elegant object in excellent condition will delight you with the finesse of its ornamentation.
