Wooden tea box from Spa early 19th century. Spa, a Belgian spa town, has developed since the 17th century a craft of objects and boxes painted or decorated by transfer as is the case here. These objects were intended to be sold to rich curists as souvenirs. Over time, they have become highly sought after collector's items.
The box is decorated on the lid and three sides with exotic decorations, Chinese style. Inside, two compartments tinned for the conservation of tea with lids and small mother-of-pearl buttons. Mother-of-pearl lock entrance plus key.
