Luxury production from the Napoleon III period between 1849 and 1866: this box is signed by the Tahan House rue de la Paix, one of the most prestigious tablet-making houses in Paris in the second half of the 19th century.
From 1849 to 1866 the Tahan house was rue de la Paix in Paris, before moving to boulevard des Italiens. Tahan, cabinetmaker to Emperor Napoleon III, supplied the imperial furniture store. The Court then placed a large number of orders with him for bookcases, tables, occasional tables and necessaries. The Tahan house was present at the exhibitions from 1849 to 1867; he won a silver medal in 1849, one in London in 1852, and the gold medal in 1867.
