Bibliography:
Prosper Lecourtier was a pupil of Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910) and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1875 until his death in 1925. Frémiet seems to have passed on his passion for the animal world to his pupil. The latter excelled in producing animals in a naturalistic style2. Lecourtier, on the other hand, expressed his talent through sculptures of more modest dimensions. The influence of his master can be seen in his sculptures of hunting scenes, but Lecourtier's sculptures of hunting dogs, stags and hinds, for example, show a real sense of movement. He possesses a real sense of naturalism in the anatomical modeling and expressions of the animals depicted. He won several medals at the Salon and at Universal Exhibitions.
