    Napoleon III period jewelry box.
    Amboyna burl veneer and marquetry
Amboyna, its scientific name Pterocarpus Indicus, is a tree that was discovered on an island in Indonesia after which it is named. It is endemic to much of Southeast Asia. It also bears the evocative names “dragon’s blood” and “Burmese rosewood”.
Its magnifying glass is particularly appreciated in cabinetmaking, cutlery and marquetry.
The square box has a side of 20 cm and a height of 7.5 cm.
The center of its lid is nicely inlaid with rosewood, ebony and white marquetry.
The central scroll bears a discreet monogram.
The edge of the lid is soberly framed with 4 lines of marquetry.
The interior is padded with light gray-blue fabric in perfect original condition.
The original lock is functional and the very discreet key has a nicely perforated grip.
It is a very beautiful decorative object which can regain its original function.
