France, circa 1840
Double-sided profile box in pressed wood in light relief. On the obverse, a captioned portrait of Louis-Philippe, King of the French, in military garb, and on the reverse, a Legion of Honor.
A fine example of Napoleonic fervor in the 19th century, particularly around 1840, when the Emperor's ashes were officially repatriated from St. Helena to Les Invalides.
