Beautiful round cufflink box in cut Baccarat crystal and vermeil (solid silver overlaid with fine gold), Empire style, mat-finished on the outside and polished on the inside.

The lid is engraved with a Count's crown surmounting a monogram NB, as well as the Minerve 1st title mark and the goldsmith's mark. The latter is small and illegible, but this type of work is very close to Sormani, and can be attributed to him.

Paul Sormani established his store in 1847 at 7, cimetière Saint Nicolas, then in 1854 at 114, rue du Temple and finally in 1867 at 10, rue Charlot in Paris. Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, made the company a success, decorating her palaces with Paul Sormani creations. Initially specializing in luxury travel kits such as our coffret, he later expanded into the production of highly refined furniture - perfect or even perfected copies of the work of the greatest 18th-century cabinetmakers such as Riesener, Oeben and others. His reputation spread throughout French high society and the courts of Europe.

A fine example of the daily refinement of high society in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ideal for storing the everyday objects of a refined man: cufflinks, signet ring, watch and other small intimate objects.

Excellent condition, no dents to the silver or damage to the crystal, unworn vermeil.
