Philippe Rochette-Castel (1941-2023), very attractive glazed ceramic sculpture in shades of red depicting a rider on his mount.
A student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, painter and sculptor Philippe Rochette-Castel produced works in the second half of the 20th century and the early 21st century. On several occasions, he was chosen for government commissions.
This fine work from the 1970s/1980s reflects his talent. Philippe Rochette-Castel's highly personal style breathes homogeneity and movement into the two figures.
The artist's total mastery of his art allows him to caricature the rider and horse in a touching way, in a style reminiscent of Honoré Daumier, but with a more refined, modern edge.
