Pair of incense burners from the early 19th century

Beautiful pair of incense burners in chiseled and gilded bronze forming an Athenian tripod. Each sheath upright is decorated with caryatids and female feet. The latter have in their center a fleuron framed on either side by a laurel stem. At their top, a starry sphere in patinated sheet metal appears held by a gilded bronze band, chiseled with fine chevrons and a gadrooned frieze.
Three small ring-shaped sockets holding a trio of chains together, punctuate the perimeter of the latter.
The grip, simulating a flame surrounded by a frieze of egg leaves, allows you to open the lid set with a finely knurled gilded bronze outline.
Finally, the helical base, centered on a loutrophore with a gadrooned foot, decorated with finely chiseled anthemions, ending with a flame, rests on a caramel yellow marble base (more amber than Siena yellow).
We find in all the decorative elements of these incense burners the craze of the Consulate and the Empire for the myths of ancient Greek and Roman civilization.
The use of perfume probably dates back to 7000 BC. B.C.
Its use is in ritual fumigations, censers or incense burners. These coins were commonly used during divinatory ceremonies or, more simply, to perfume temples and homes. Particularly favored at bath time.
