India, 16th century, superb and rare bronze Jain statue of the goddess Ambika. She is depicted standing on a pedestal, leaning against a mandorla, wearing a dhoti with a small Jina on her head. She holds a child on her left arm and what appears to be a weapon in her right hand. The goddess is flanked by her "yahana animal", a lion, at the bottom of her left side and another child standing at the bottom of her right side.
Beautiful reddish-green patina.
Condition: old accident at the bottom of both legs and heavy abrasion due to old age, with no effect on aesthetics.
