This beautifully crafted plaque is characteristic of micro-mosaic. The term “micro-mosaic” refers to a mosaic whose tiny elements of spun glass, fragments of colored enamel (smalti filati) or hard stones, constituting its decoration, are very finely assembled so as to make the joints almost imperceptible.
This is a representation of a woman in the Antique style, probably a Greek dancer playing with her veil and dress. The whole is beautifully crafted, of high quality and large size. The technique can be admired in the rendering of the face and in the drapery of the dress.
The plaque is fixed on a copper support that can be seen in the last photo. The plaque was probably reframed later in a 19th century frame with gold leaf, you will notice classic wear and friction on this frame.
The plate is in a fair condition, however we report small lacks, some cracks, nothing prohibitive.
Our many photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the object.
