This knife can be attributed to Juan Manuel de Rosas given the style and the inscription, but I can't confirm this as I'm not an expert. We think it's silver, but no hallmark has been found to confirm this.
The scabbard is made of silver and leather, given its quality, as well as a hook for wearing it on the belt.
The blade is engraved with a hunting scene and arabesques. The rest of the inscription is difficult to identify.
Juan Manuel de Rosas was an Argentine politician and military leader who governed the Argentine Confederation from 1835 to 1852. Rosas was a great unifier of his country, but many historians consider his regime to have been violent and brutal. Like any rustic man of his time, Rosas was a lover of sabers and knives.
Note the non-corrosive rust and the broken tip of the knife.
The scabbard is stained but complete. The strapping has come loose on one end, to be restored.
We are selling it as is, not cleaned, in its original condition.
For condition, please detail photos.
