An important and superb late 19th century Japanese porcelain vase or cachepot with Imari decoration. Its circular shape is fluted with melon ribs. The fine decoration features reserved figures, carp and squirrels against a plant background. Japan, 1880s/1900s.
Good overall condition, apart from some very slight wear in the decoration, normal for its age. No shocks, cracks or restorations.
Very generous proportions: Total diameter 37 cm. Height 23 cm (see the small lighter as a scale indicator on the last photograph).
