Japan, 1930s/1950s, very fine bronze inkwell with a golden-brown patina, consisting of a cubic container for ink and a long shaft for brushes. The lid is adorned with a figure carrying two bags at the end of a stick resting on one shoulder, and a dragon. The shaft is decorated in relief with insects and plants, and the end features an elephant's head whose trunk holds the whole at a useful height.
