    Indonesia, Bali Island, 19th century, important and very old betel nut grinder, complete with its "scabbard." The handle is beautifully decorated with a bone carving of a bird with a human head, perched on what appears to be foliage. The carving exhibits a superb patina of age. The base of the handle is bronze, and the blade is iron. The scabbard is wooden. This is a very rare object due to its particularly elaborate handle. Grinder height: 23 cm. Scabbard height: 11 cm. Good condition except for normal wear related to the piece's great age, which does not affect its beautiful appearance. Provenance: Former Dutch collection.
