India, 17th century or earlier, very pretty and unusual bronze group made in two parts representing the goddess Durga, wrathful form of Parvati. She is represented in a prabhavali arch surmounted by the head of a fantastic animal, under a canopy formed by a five-headed cobra. She has several arms which she uses during her iconic fight against Mahishasura. With her right foot she steps on the back of the buffalo whose head is already severed while she removes the demon from the animal's body.
Very old work of good quality.
Height 17.6 cm. The scale indicator in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a brand known to everyone.
Good condition except for normal wear and tear due to age.
