Paul Urfer is a ceramist by training, as well as a decorator.
His technique, imagination and inspiration give rise to a rich array of decors.
In 1972, he was awarded the title of "meilleur ouvrier de France" in ceramics.
His creations are exhibited at the Salon des Arts du Feu in Lyon, among the most prestigious.

Like many artists before him, he had to make compromises and create more commercial items, such as plates, like Capron, who in his time made salt shakers and thermometers, Salvatore Dali for chocolate advertising. etc....

The plate itself shows a woman on one knee.

In total humility, from the Latin humilitas, which derives from the Latin humus - "earth" - the term refers to keeping one's feet on the ground, accepting the weakness that is the common lot of mortals, unadorned, naked, carrying a dove at the end of her hand.

The woman is the symbol of femininity, gentleness, love and life, welcoming a dove, while the dove is the symbol of peace, in an attitude that is both humble and powerful in its symbols.

The power of this couple, woman and dove, is symbolized by the red-arched background.
The graphic design is typical of the 70's, fluid and refined, reflecting the artist's mastery of his craft.

Volvic lava has been extracted from the Nugère volcano (high above Volvic) since the 13th century, and was widely used in construction.
