China, second half of the 18th century, a delightful small porcelain dish featuring a stylized floral design in blue on a white ground. The reverse is equally beautiful and features a workshop mark.
This piece is very similar to some of the pieces found in the wreck of the ship Tek Sing, which sank in 1822 in the South China Sea and was recovered by archaeologists in 1999. The precious cargo included many ancient porcelains that may have been up to a hundred years old at the time of the sinking.
Diameter 13.8 cm.
