Burma, mid-20th century, superb and very important four-tiered offering box in gold, red and black lacquer. The circular shape and curved edges of the tiers give this magnificent piece an unusual design. The generous belly of the main body is richly decorated with a revolving pattern of figures and animals in a rich plant setting.
The workmanship is impeccable and worthy of the finest Burmese lacquerware creations. These boxes were used by upper-class families to take offerings to deities and temple guardian monks.
Substantial dimensions: Height 34 cm. Diameter 37 cm. The scale indicator on the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand.
Good condition, apart from some light wear and rubbing, but nothing abnormal for its age and with no effect on the aesthetics of this magnificent piece.
