Large Papuan war shield collected in the highlands region of Papua New Guinea. Numerous traces of use and wear and impacts of arrows remained embedded throughout. Tribal drawings probably evoking a totemic reference of the clan of origin. Repainted many times to preserve its aura, the shield remains a very personal object that Papuans are reluctant to part with. Wood, fiber and red and white pigments.
