<meta charset="UTF-8" /><meta charset="UTF-8" />Rare Malagan dance mask collected on the Tabar Islands in Papua New Guinea. Called "Tatanua", this mask represents a person's soul and is used for commemoration ceremonies. These relatively light wooden masks are worn during ritual dances. This one, for example, was used in a large ceremony held on the island of Tatau in February 2020. Wood, plant fibers (notably coconut and pandanus), coconut bark, pigments and shells.
