    Rare Malagan dance mask collected on the Tabar Islands in Papua New Guinea. This mask called "Tatanua" represents the soul that a person has and is used during commemoration ceremonies. These relatively light wooden masks are worn during ritual dances. This one was notably used during a large ceremony organized in February 2020 on the island of Tatau. Wood, plant fibers (notably coconut and pandanus), coconut bark, pigments and shells. Sold with a presentation base. Approx. 22 x 47 x 37 cm / €2,300 including base and shipping costs.
