Rare Malagan dance mask from the Tabar Islands in Papua New Guinea. This mask called "Tatanua" represents the soul that a person has and is used in commemoration ceremonies. These relatively light wooden masks are worn during ritual dances. Wood, plant fibers including pandanus, coconut tree bark, “Eye of Saint Lucia” shells (Turbo) and natural pigments.
