Napa dance club - Santa Cruz Islands
A dance club called "Napa" whose shape resembles that of a canoe and of which the majority of the black and red pigments remain, along with a few areas of white pigment. There are shrinkage cracks on two sides. Used in traditional dances by men lined up in two rows who dance and hit each other. Generally attributed to the island of Ndende, they are found throughout the Santa Cruz islands and are thought to have originated in Utupua. See "Art of the Solomon Islands" D.Waite 1982 Geneva, Item #70 for a close-up example.
