"Pipe Tomahawk or Tomahawk Calumet - Plains Indian / North America
Tomahawk calumet ("pipe tomahawk").
The handle is pierced by a flue that allows smoke to circulate. Its fine, undulating shape makes it particularly attractive.
The axe's metal blade is broken, but this does not detract from its beauty.
The blade is characterized by large engravings in the metal: a bear carries a wood-dragging tool; on the other side is an unknown Indian wearing a fine headdress. In one hand, he holds a pipe to his mouth, from which smoke escapes. In the other hand, he holds a bow. In the distance, tipis can be made out.
Next is an engraving of a wolf sitting on a tree trunk. Finally, there's the figure of a tree. The pipe bowl is engraved with flowering tree branches.
The iconographic importance of these elements makes this a rare object.
