USA - Northern Plains - Sioux (Lakota)
1870's or earlier
24 cm long and 8,5 cm at the widest

Deerskin, raw leather, Murano beads, sinew, pigments.
Rare and beautiful Sioux or Fort Berthold knife case. This pattern of interlocking diamonds is found on Sioux objects of the first phase "seed beads". Green and yellow drop patterns scraped into rawhide are not common. The size of the case can fit a man or woman, as it should not impede the owner's movement. The case is missing 3 row of beads at the extremity.
