God of war Zuñi - USA
Large statue of Ahayuta (or Ahayu'da).
In Zuni mythology, Ahayuta are twin gods of war. They were created by Awonawilona, the sun god, to protect the first peoples from their enemies.
The Zuni carved one of the Ahayuta twins from pieces of wood struck by lightning to ensure protection and victory in battle.
This statue features a face with angular contours and a thin nose. Its center is pierced by a hole into which a cylindrical piece of wood was inserted. The base is decorated with carved horizontal bands.
