Dance drum - North America
This traditional drum is typical of the shamanic drums seen among the Native American populations of North America. Often associated with these populations, Pow-Wows were for a long time one of the places where the traditional use of this musical instrument could be seen. Pow-Wows have traditionally been events of celebration and gathering for the community, as a way of getting closer together and exchanging ideas with family and friends on an annual basis.
These large gatherings followed long periods of absence or military exploits. Numerous traces of period pigments can be seen on this drum, giving it great aesthetic and spiritual power.
The presence of an occasional fire wound does not alter the beauty of the object.
