Beautiful MOSSI female statue in carved wood from Burkina Faso (50cm). Despite the passage of time, this statue still retains traces of scarification marks on the face and chest. Standing upright on her legs, she has the head carriage of a chief's wife and the hairstyle typical of this ethnic group. Mostly feminine, linked to the power of the chiefs, these figures commemorated the ancestors and were kept inside the hut of the eldest wife.
Beautiful representation in heavy wood, eroded due to its age. Sold assembled.
