Superb example of a LOBI Bateba statue, the term for which can be translated as "carved wooden figure"! This Bateba, probably of the Yadawora or "sad" bateba type, depicts a standing man with his head and eyes slightly lowered! Heavy erosion of the wood over the years has erased certain details of the sculpture, such as the arms and part of the back.
This sculpture exudes peace and inner wisdom! Dry patina, erosion and drying cracks. Sold on an ebony base.
