Excellent Sango reliquary figure from Gabon, the object measures approximately 30cms, wooden core plated with copper or brass, the patina of time is deep. The quality of the sculpture is quite remarkable with a somewhat disturbing presence. The object is filed in what is considered a magical or reliquary charge but probably a substitute at the time of a trade with the passing visitor. This sculpture has no obvious pedigree or traceability but can be estimated from the middle (and perhaps a little before) of the 20th century.
