Rare fetish called Boli, Bambara Mali.
Unique in Africa, these fetishes are said to capture a vital energy called nyama, bringing health and prosperity to the population.
For each ritual, a wooden frame is gradually covered with a variety of materials: sacred earth, beeswax, chewed coca leaves, chicken blood and bones (a small piece of bone can be seen protruding from the frame) (photos 4 and 5). The shape gradually rises to resemble a buffalo crossed with a hypopotamus, a primal animal with a rounded appearance. These fetishes are now abandoned with the radicalization of Islam in Mali.
This model is particularly beautiful, which is not always the case; they are very rare on the art market and can fetch considerable sums => sothebys or christies .
