Rare and superb pair of antique DEBLÉ in heavy hardwood with dark patina, depicting a couple with highly accentuated stylized forms, all vertical, hands in pallets. RCI.
These two figure sculptures rest on a pestle that enabled members of the Poro secret group to carry them around, regularly pounding the ground in a ritual procession, to the rhythm of songs and drums.
Often in pairs, the DEBLÉ performs at the funeral ceremony of a Poro chief.
The Sénoufo country is divided between three states: Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire and Mali.
