“Pwo” mask presenting a very soft feminine face. It evokes an ancestral spirit while representing the ideal woman.
The half-open mouth is luscious. It is topped with a thin, slender nose. Scarifications of vertical lines run along the nasal bridge and create continuity with an imposing ogive-shaped headdress.
The left ear still shows traces of red pigment and has a copper ring-shaped earring. The other ear is broken at the lobe.
A collection label is stuck to the back of the mask. It reads “Luena 1929.2.1”. 1929 certainly being the date of collection.
