“Egungun” dance costume composed of strips of multi-colored fabric embroidered and embellished with small plastic beads composing geometric and animal motifs. A painted wooden face (small missing at the base) occupies the upper part of the costume. The center is decorated with small fabric cushions and cowrie shells. A larger cushion resting on an animal skin is suspended from a small bundle of wood and a bronze bell.
These dance adornments were worn during ceremonies intended to bring back to earth an ancestor who was incarnated in the dancer.
