The Igbos are one of the three great nations of Nigeria.
They are located mainly in the south-eastern part of the country (limited by the Bénoué to the north and the Niger River to the west), but also constitute a significant part of the population of the country's two main cities: Lagos to the west and Kano to the north.
Mask traditions are very strong in this ethnic group and the number of variations of these masks is significant.
This type of conical mask is, however, quite unusual and there is a lack of knowledge about it. At most it can be placed as coming from the Nsukka region. See similar example on page 136 of the book Igbo Arts, community & cosmos.
Good overall with cracks and slight gaps, this mask is partly ragged, see photos.
Height 50 cm, base diameter 28 cm.
