On the lid, a beautifully carved gallant scene occupies almost the entire surface of the object. On the reverse side, an American Indian seems to be playing a musical instrument, a kind of harp whose sound intrigues the dog sitting next to the musician. This small box that looks like a snuffbox is a beautiful masterpiece of folk art. Does it come from Europe or America? It is very difficult to say because many European sailors made these small snuff boxes on their way back to the Old Continent. The corozo nut, very easy to carve, is also easily dyed and patinated so that it was a material of choice for the making of small objects. Anyway, this box entirely carved in medium relief is in very good condition.
