Beautiful HELIOS projection lantern by Mazo, late 19th century, circa 1900. Its main feature is a solid copper optical system with variable spacing, adjustable by a helical screw on the front of the lantern. This lantern is complete and even comes with its own 4-wick kerosene lamp. In used condition and generally well preserved, I would point out that the inner lens is cracked. Length 45.5 cm, height 45.5 cm.
- Invented in 1659, the magic lantern, ancestor of the slide projector, first fascinated crowds as an entertainment tool. At the end of the 19th century, it was introduced into schools as a genuine educational tool.
