    Large globe in papier-mache and plaster, set in its wooden basket: the spindles are painted with the continents (decoratively), the complete meridian is in brass; the hour circle is decorated with the signs of the zodiac.

    As early as the Renaissance, libraries and other rooms dedicated to culture featured large globes depicting the Earth as it was known at the time, as well as its counterpart, a celestial globe.
    Some globes of this size may have been transformed into bars.
