Smooth back only titled and dated for the second (Carayon). Edition of 200 copies. number on Japan initialed by the publisher and 8 hors commerce on white vellum. This copy is exceptional, it contains 2 original gouaches by Robaudi, unsigned and unrelated to the book, and several suites and refused plates described below. The first is occupied by the said work with a suite on japan of all the illustrations by Giraldon, 20 plates on japan in blue of the portraits of Robaudi, including portraits refused, and several proposed variants of the portraits, 2 portraits in black on vellum by the Countess of Candale, 2 plates (in black and in color) on Japanese paper of the refused portrait of Signorita Rosario, 1 plate on Japanese paper in color of the refused portrait of Inconnue as well as a print on Japanese paper from the beginning of the first story, most likely used for the publication prospectus. The second volume includes 180 plates including 4 ornaments by Giraldon printed on white paper and 176 plates on Japan of color decompositions. Robaudi's watercolors for the portraits are reproduced in hollow on copper by Chauvet and Helle, printed in color by doll by Wittmann and retouched by the artist and the 35 watercolors by Giraldon for the ornaments are reproduced in relief by Ducourtioux and Huillard and typographically printed in colors by Chamerot and Renouard YF4 (Monod, 1790)
