Beautiful collection of antique books, Buffon's Histoire Naturelle put into form by the Comte de Lacépède, in 26 volumes format in 6. Beautiful green leather binding, richly gilded with small irons, red title-pieces. Published in 1829 by Rapet in Paris. Ex libris of the Marquis de Chanay, with the family coat of arms and the motto "constant in fide", indicating the provenance of this collection.
Buffon's Histoire Naturelle is a great classic. It presents in an orderly fashion the knowledge of the natural sciences at the time, classifying and describing species of animals, plants, minerals and so on. The last volume includes color plates. Our collection is a very fine early 19th-century edition, in good overall condition; a great set of highly decorative bindings, but also of works that can be read beyond the aesthetic qualities of the whole.
All bindings will be rewaxed before shipping, minor wear to headpieces but not missing, one cover plate reattached to the double volume of plates.
