EROTIC PENDANT of an ADORED PHALLUS
19th century European work
Gilt bronze
H. 6.5; L. 6 cm
Composite pendant consisting of the lower part of a gilded bronze crucifix or stoup depicting two angels in adoration at the foot of a phallus erected on an altar in place of the cross. The rod is carved in such a way as to attribute it to Japanese work, perhaps adapted from a netsuke.
A suspension ring is fixed below a poly-lobed plate, centered on a bouquet of flowers and enlivened by three scallop shells.
