    Intaglio and cameo impressions.
These precious gemstones, preciously cut in hollow (intaglios) or in relief (cameos), have been admired and coveted since Antiquity. This craze reached its zenith with the Neoclassical period in Rome.
At the end of the 18th century, workshops such as the Paoletti, located at 49 Piazza di Spagna, produced vitreous paste matrices based on originals held in the most famous collections.
These matrices enabled them to mass-produce scagliola (a type of plaster or stucco) prints for travelers, collectors, artists and other enthusiasts visiting Rome.

    Grand Tour.
