Channing Peake est né à Boulder, au Colorado, et a déménagé en Californie lorsqu'il était enfant. Il a reçu des bourses du California College of Arts and Crafts d'Oakland et de la Santa Barbara School of Arts. Il étudie le muralisme avec Diego Rivera au Mexique, puis à l'Art Students League de New York. Là, il rencontre Rico LeBrun et, grâce à lui, travaille sur des peintures murales avec Lewis Rubenstein à Harvard et LeBrun sur un projet WPA pour Pennsylvania Station. Il est retourné dans le comté de Santa Barbara, où il a passé le reste de sa vie. Là, il a travaillé, entre autres, avec Howard Warshaw. Il a voyagé et travaillé au Mexique, en Amérique centrale et en Europe, et était ami avec les artistes notables Pablo Picasso, Rufino Tamayo et Françoise Gilot. Il est décédé à Santa Barbara, en Californie, en 1989. Le travail de Channing Peake se distingue par ses formes fortes et abstraites et son utilisation audacieuse des noirs, du rouge et du bleu.

Channing Peake was born in Boulder, Colorado, and moved to California as a child. He received scholarships to both the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, and the Santa Barbara School of Arts. He studied muralism with Diego Rivera in Mexico, followed by studies at the Art Students League of New York. There, he met Rico Lebrun, and through him, worked on murals with Lewis Rubenstein at Harvard and LeBrun, among others. He traveled and worked in Mexico, Central America and Europe, and was friends with notable artists Pablo Picasso, Rufino Tamayo, and Françoise Gilot. He died in Santa Barbara, California in 1989. Channing Peake's own work is distinguished by his strong, abstracted shapes and bold use of blacks, red and blues.
